Jet Reports How to Create a Report in Excel using the NL (Rows) Function In this guide, we will show you how to use the NL (Rows) function to create a report in Excel. The NL function is a powerful tool that allows you to display values from your database on your report. Using this function, you can create reports showing specific information clearly and concisely. The NL (“Rows“) function inserts a new row for each value in the database. We will now display a list of Customer Names using the NL (Rows) function. Join On Point Academy to view all content Join the academy → Log in → Step 1: Open Your Excel Report and Navigate to the Jet Tab First, open your Excel report and navigate to the Jet tab. The Jet tab is where you will find the NL function, which you must use to create your report. Step 2: Click on the NL Function Once on the Jet tab, navigate to Tools and click on the NL function. This will bring up a drop-down menu where you can configure the function to display the information you want on your report. Step 3: Fill in the NL Function In the drop-down menu, fill in the NL function as follows: In the "What" tab, select Rows as you want to display each value retrieved from the database on a new row. In the "Table" tab, select the table that contains the data you want to display. In the "Field" tab, select the field that contains the data you want to display. Step 4: Click on "OK" Once you have filled in the NL function, click "OK". This will generate a report that displays the information you have selected. Step 5: Add a Column Name to Your Report Add a column name to make your report easier to read and understand. You can do this by selecting the cell above your NL function and entering a title in the appropriate field. Step 6: Run Your Report Once you have added a title to your report, run it to see the information you have selected displayed clearly and concisely. Microsoft Business Central Filters In Business Central Filtering in Business Central is a more advanced and innovative approach to control data included in a list, report or other output. Only data for the specified criteria will be presented if you set criteria for multiple fields. Click the funnel symbol at the upper right of the page to access the Business Central filter pane. A section called Views should display on the left side of the page. Now , let's explore what a Field filter and a Flow filter are. Field filters are always listed in the Filter list by section. STEP 1 : As shown in the illustration we are filtering by Buy-from Vendor Name in purchase invoices. To filter, hover your mouse pointer over the Field heading of the field you want to filter. A drop-down arrow appears, click on it, a list drops then select Filter . STEP 2: On selecting Filter , the Views section comes up on the left side of the page. Fabrikam, Inc was entered in the Filter list by section and the results showed all purchase invoices with the Buy-From Vendor Name, Fabrikam, Inc . Users also have the option to apply numerous filters at once to refine their results. NB: By clicking the Filter action in Filter list by , you can select a field you wish to filter. To open up the filter pane you can also type Shift + F3 . FLOW FILTER Flow filter utilises a variety of calculating techniques such as sum (total), average, maximum value, minimum value, record count, lookup, and more to develop and narrow down results. Flow filters are always listed in the Filter totals by section. In this illustration, data from the Income Statement has been filtered out from the Chart of Accounts. Let's narrow down the data to include income statement data from 01/01/2018 to 12/31/2018. STEP 1: In the Filter totals by section we select the Date filter and enter the parameters. The flow filter filters and displays results for the parameters set. Let's explore some of the filters in Business Central. | (Either / Or) - For this illustration, we placed the Either/Or symbol ( | ) between 10000 and 20000 as shown in the Filter list By section to display all purchase invoices with Buy-from Vendor No. with either 10000 or 20000 . < > (Not Equal To) - For this illustration, we placed the Not Equal To symbol ( < > ) before 0 (zero) as shown in the Filter list by section to display all purchase invoices with Amount Including VAT except 0 (zero). > (Greater Than) - For this illustration, we placed the Greater Than symbol ( > ) before 1000 as shown in the Filter list by section to display all purchase invoices with Amounts greater than 1000 . > = (Greater than or Equal to) - For this illustration, we placed the Greater Than or Equal to symbol ( >= ) before 100 as shown in the Filter list by section to display all purchase invoices with Amounts greater than or equal to 100 . < (Less Than) - For this illustration, we placed the Less Than symbol ( < ) before 500 as shown in the Filter list by section to display all purchase invoices with Amount including VAT less than 500 . < = (Less Than or Equal to) - For this illustration, we placed the Less Than or Equal to symbol ( <= ) before 100 as shown in the Filter list by section to display all purchase invoices with Amount including VAT less than or equal to 100 . & (And) - For this illustration, we placed the And symbol ( & ) between >10 and <1000 as shown in the Filter list by section to display all purchase invoices with Amount including VAT greater than 10 and less than 1000 . . . (Interval) - For this illustration, we placed the Interval symbol ( .. ) between 20000 and 50000 as shown in the Filter list by section to display all sales invoices with Sell-to Customer No. from 20000 to 50000.
