- Balance Sheet - On Point Resources
How-to - Balance Sheet Jet Reports Balance Sheet A balance sheet is a statement of a business that reports a company’s assets, liabilities, and owner’s equity. The balance sheet is one of the core financial statements that are used to evaluate a business. A balance sheet gives you a view of your company’s financial position at a given point in time. Along with an income and cash flow statement, a balance sheet helps business owners evaluate their company’s standards. I’ll show you how to create a balance sheet with a Jet report In this article. Join On Point Academy to view all content Join the academy → Log in → Procedure Step 1 Create the Report Options and dates for our report Navigate to the Ribbon tools and click on Report Options. when you do that, a new Report Option Page will pop up. on the pop-out, you can fill in as shown below. We now have our Report Option created. A new page titled Option should appear in our workbook, this is where we create our dates. create the date using the formulas shown below Note: While creating our previous Year’s date, you must notice that we created it in such a way that we can run the full period for last year, and select a range for the current year. E.g. we are in April for the current year, the way the formula is created allows us to run for Jan-April current year, and get the whole of last year. “Date (D15,1,1) & Date(D15,12,31)“ This simply means get the value in cell 'D15', which is the year, then “1,1,” tells is it 1st of January while “12,31,” says 31st of December. So, you can always select Jan-to-current month for the current year from the pop-out and still get the whole of the previous year we now show the date range on our report page for easy access This can simply be done by “= (then navigate to the options page and select the date)“. Do this for the period start & end of both years. Also for the title (year “2023“), we use the formula to reference the year in cell E4. We also want the title to change along with the year we run the report. we use the same formula for (the year”2022”) but in this case, Cell F4. Now, our G/L account will be referencing that date at the top of the report. Step 2(a) Create a template. The first thing to do is to create a template of what you want your report to cover, and how you want your report to display. Assets Liabilities Equity Step 2(b) Adding G/L Account Number to your report. Once your template is ready the company G/L Account Number needs to be mapped to the template as well as the date range you want the result to display on. just as shown below. Step 3 Building our Jet function. Now that we have our G/L Account no mapped, we can proceed to create our Jet function. we do this by clicking on the function we want to use, the GL Function. When you click on the G/L function, it brings up our function wizard, then we can fill in all that we want. We fill in as shown below. in this report, we want to show the balance, with the account number selected. we lock the column of account no by pressing the “fn function key with F4“. we select our start date and end date and lock down the row. if we want an additional filter, we can add then in the space. when you scroll down, you see a space where we have company. you can select the name of your company there. Once you’ve filled in the requirements, click on okay to close the wizard. Step 4 Building the jet function for other cells Since we’ve locked the necessary columns and rows, we can easily complete the other functions by simply copying and pasting or by just dragging as shown below. You can calculate other functions you have there using normal Excel formulas. e.g. Calculating Total Revenue, margin %, etc. An example is shown below. Step 5 Running your report When you run your report, it should come out clean as shown Below. Note: you can include the date range as a report option, this allows Jet users (viewers) to be able to select the date range without changing the report. - Making sense of the Currency Exchange Rates - On Point Resources
How-to - Making sense of the Currency Exchange Rates Microsoft Business Central Making sense of the Currency Exchange Rates Join On Point Academy to view all content Join the academy → Log in → To access the Currency Exchange Rate page you must first go to the Currencies page, highlight the currency in question, and then drill down on the Exchange Rate . Alternatively from the Currencies page, you can highlight the currency and click Process → Exch. Rates as per below. This will open the Currency Exchange Rates window which is shown below: The “Exchange Rate Amount” is the rate to use for the “Currency Code” selected on the line, and the “Relational Exch. Rate Amount” relates to the rate to use for the “Relational Currency Code”. (generally, it's left blank so it's the local currency – see further below for an example where this isn’t the case). Therefore using the Currency Exchange Rates window shown above, as we have 1.0 in the Relational Exch. Rate Amount (GBP) and 1.3 in the Exchange Rate Amount (EUR) this means 1.3 Euros is equal to 1 GBP. (The “Exchange Rate Amount” is acting as the exchange rate) Hence entering a transaction for €200.00 would equate to £153.85 (i.e. 200 / 1.3 = 153.85). I could also flip this by entering 1.0 in the “Exchange Rate Amount” and 0.76923 in the “Relational Exch. Rate Amount” as per below: This now means the “Relational Exch. Rate Amount” is acting as the Exchange Rate. In this example €1 (Exchange Rate Amount) is equal to £0.76923 (Relational Exch. Rate Amount). Therefore entering a transaction for €200.00 would also equate to £153.85 (i.e. 200 * 0.76923) Both would work exactly the same it's just a slightly different configuration. Adding a Relational Currency Code Currency Exchange Rates page has been changed for EUR to include USD as the Relational Currency Code as per below: Therefore if we were to raise a €200 Invoice the GBP will be calculated as follows: Step 1 Euros to USD :- €200 / 1.3 = $153.8462 Step 2 USD to GBP :- $153.8462 / 1.39 = £110.68 To confirm an Invoice has been added in Business Central and below is the statistics page confirming our calculations. - Edit in Microsoft Excel - On Point Resources
How-to - Edit in Microsoft Excel Microsoft Business Central Edit in Microsoft Excel The Microsoft office suite of products are probably the most important and popular products within an office environment. For ages we have tried to get rid of them with no results at all. In a complete change of mindset we are now encuraging the proper use of the suite of products together with the main software being used. Join On Point Academy to view all content Join the academy → Log in → With this in mind the tight integration of Business Central to the office products is all the more important. It’s not about simple dumping of data, but about being efficient in our work and making the best use of the features offered by Microsoft office. With the onset of the Business Central SAAS, we are now able to edit content directly into excel with a couple of easy steps. It’s a feature which is available in most list and tables available within the system. In order to make use of this the following steps are necessary: Go to the usual page within Business Central, such as the Item list. Click on the button share with other apps and choose Edit in Excel After downloading and opening the excel sheet you’ll be prompted to sign into Business Central through Excel itself. This is a one-time setup, only necessary for the first time you’re using Microsoft Excel to edit the data. Once in Excel, you may: Add new records Amend current records Should you need to refresh the data with the current data in the system, maybe to get a fresh copy of data you would simply need to click on the button refresh. Once all the changes are ready simply Publish the changes One key question is when to use this feature. We recommend it in one of the following cases: When we have a large amount of data which has to be updated or amended When we a number of new records are to be inputted in the system Whenever we have the data handy in excel and we’d rather copy and paste it rather than typing it into the system. - How to Churn Analysis in Microsoft Power BI - On Point Resources
How-to - How to Churn Analysis in Microsoft Power BI Microsoft PowerBI How to Churn Analysis in Microsoft Power BI Churn analysis is an important aspect of customer relationship management that every organization must pay attention to. It helps to identify and understand why customers stop doing business with a company, which in turn enables organizations to take the necessary steps to improve customer retention. Join On Point Academy to view all content Join the academy → Log in → Churn analysis is an important aspect of customer relationship management that every organization must pay attention to. It helps to identify and understand why customers stop doing business with a company, which in turn enables organizations to take the necessary steps to improve customer retention. Churn analysis in Power BI typically involves analyzing customer data such as transaction history, frequency of purchases, and communication with the business. By analyzing this data, businesses can identify patterns and trends that can provide valuable insights into customer behaviour. For example, Power BI can be used to analyze the purchasing habits of customers who have stopped doing business with a company. By examining factors such as the frequency of purchases and the types of products purchased, businesses can identify patterns and trends that can help them understand why these customers churned. Another area where Power BI can be useful is in analyzing customer feedback. By examining customer feedback data, businesses can identify areas of weakness in their products or services that may have contributed to customer churn. This can help businesses take the necessary steps to address these issues and improve customer satisfaction. Power BI can also be used to analyze customer engagement. By analyzing data on how customers interact with the business, such as website visits, social media interactions, and email communications, businesses can identify areas where they can improve engagement and prevent churn. How then do we do this in PowerBI? Let’s go into PowerBI. The model used is the model you are familiar with First, we need to have our base measures set. Total Sales 2. Total Customers Now, for our churn measures. Let’s think of the logic together. Say you are managing a business and you need to identify customers that are no longer buying from you. What would you do? How would you go about it manually? Think about this before moving downwards. Well, your guess is as good as mine. To do this manually, you will need to follow the process as thus: Get a list of all customers that have purchased from you Get a list of customers that have purchased from you recently. Recently is relative i.e. it could be a month, two months, three months etc. Compare both lists to identify who is on number 1 and not on number 2 Similar logic is followed for the DAX measure. The Churned/Lost customers can be calculated with the DAX below The Customers_last_365_days variable creates a virtual table containing a list of customers who purchased a product between 365 days ago to 60 days ago. The Customers_last_60_day variable creates a virtual table containing a list of customers who purchased a product between 60 days ago to the current day context provided by the calendar table. The COUNTROWS function counts the number of customers who made purchases in the previous period (Customers_last_365_days) but did not make any purchases in the current period (Customers_last_60_day). If we are losing customers, what that implies is that we are losing potential revenue. The DAX below calculates the potential revenue we are losing out on. Note that the revenue doesn’t necessarily mean that the exact amount will be made if the customer is not churned. It is best interpreted as you are losing a certain percentage of that lost revenue with the customer being churned. For example, If I say Nigeria is a $500 billion economy. It doesn’t mean every company will generate that amount as revenue but companies operating in Nigeria will generate a certain percentage as revenue. That percentage could be as low as 0.000000000000001% and as high as it could get. Now that we have gotten that out of the way. Identifying lost customers is not just sufficient. My Former Boss (Joshua) used to say something. So what? We’ve lost 300 customers, so what? What do we do with that? How does it help us take the next step? The so what can be gotten from understanding what those lost customers bought, where they brought from, their feedback on both the product and service rendered to them etc? Let’s take a quick walkthrough of this together https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZO_ESC3VuuE Overall, churn analysis in Power BI can provide organizations with valuable insights that can help them improve customer retention and increase revenue. By identifying patterns and trends in customer behaviour, organizations can take proactive steps to address issues and improve the overall customer experience.
